Perspective of Young Mexicans to Combat Climate Change
Active participation of the youth in COP16
In the Mexican Pavillion at Cancunmesse building took place the panel Perspective of Young Mexicans to Combat Climate Change, involving young people from different non-governmental organizations such as Greenpeace Mexico and the World Scout Movement.
These associations form an affinity group of youngsters interested in the climate change issue, and since 2009 it has been appointed as observer member of the conference sessions, which gives them more legitimacy to their activism and participation in the process.
On the panel opinions of the participants were offered, and all agreed on the need to translate the agreements made at COP16 to a real ground in their communities. They committed to disseminate information to which they have access in this conference to all youth from different regions, so that they are aware of the climatic reality of the planet.
They called for greater financial support from governments to support the dissemination of ecological problems and prepare young people to tackle climate change. They acknowledged their responsibility as young people to demand results from the government, but also to be agents of change to achieve these advances.
