Cambridge Council cuts energy bill by £233,000 a year

United Kingdom

Cambridge City Council has saved an estimated £233,000 per year since 2005 by cutting electricity, gas and fuel costs, a new report reveals.

The council said it was equivalent to taking more than 200 cars off the roads or cutting carbon losses from 125 homes.

The latest environment report also describes progress on steps to manage risks associated with climate change.

In Cambridge this means flood risks and water shortages, the report said.

Improvements in energy efficiency, waste recycling, open spaces and wildlife protection are also discussed.

Clare Blair, who is responsible for climate change and growth issues on the council, said: "Reducing the council's carbon footprint goes hand-in-hand with prudent use of our financial resources."
