Climate Change group constructs water reservoir for communityNigeria
Greenwatch Initiative (GI), one of the implementing partners on Building Nigeria’s Response to Climate Change (BNRCC), said it has completed the construction of 17,000 litter capacity water harvesting reservoir in Daudu community of Benue State where it is working on a two year project.
GI’s project in the community is to complement the water needs of community members in addition to the community dam which was de-silted earlier in the year.
Commissioning the project earlier in the week, the Executive Director of GI, Emmanuel Tembe, commended the consortium of NGOs; NEST/CUSO-VSO/MARBEK and CIDA for supporting the implementation of all aspects of the project.
He enjoined the community members to ensure judicious use and maintenance of the facility.
On their part, the chairman of the project implementation committee in Daudu community Alakali Tyonyion, thanked GI for carrying the community along in all the project activities, just as he pledged the commitment of the entire community in efficient utilization and maintenance of the water harvesting reservoir.
Community members, especially women, expressed gratitude for the project, saying the water harvester will give them relief from water shortage especially during the dry season.
