House Okays Climate Change Commission BillNigeria
Yesterday, the House of Representatives adopted the Conference Committee Report on a bill for an Act to provide for the establishment of a National Climate Change Commission. The bill marked HB.22 was passed by the House on June 4, 2009 and transmitted to the Senate for concurrence.
Chairman, House Committee on Climate Change, honourable Eziuche Ubani who presented the harmonised report for adoption at plenary yesterday disclosed that the Conference Committee of the two chambers became necessary when the Senate passed the same bill with some differences. According Ubani, the two chambers met in conference on Thursday July 22, 2010 and Tuesday October 26, 2010 during which they adopted a harmonised version. The bill was presented to parliament in view of the need to address and regulate policies and actions on Climate Change in Nigeria.
The House also considered and adopted the report of its Ad-Hoc Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution on a bill for an Act to Amend the Constitution of the Federal republic of Nigeria Cap. C.23, laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004. The bill sought to elevate the status of the National Industrial Court in the Constitution.
